Citizens' Oversight Committee Quarterly Update - October 2014
What' Happening at VVHS?
Greetings from Valley View High School, Chaffey Community Day School and the Chaffey Success and Opportunity Program!
I hope you have had a great summer and are excited to begin a new school year! With the beginning of every new school year there is a renewal of enthusiasm and hope for the attainment of goals. We welcome you back with a firm commitment to help you achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself and your future. You were missed during the summer months!
The first day of the 2015-16 school year for all students is Wednesday, August 5th.
Parents, it is very important to me that we work together in an effort to make a high school diploma a reality for our students. I hope you can join us for informational meetings that we will have throughout the school year. You will receive information about these meetings, but please contact me at any time if you have any questions.
I’d like to ask our parents and students to take advantage of our career center and the academic guidance our counseling staff can provide. One thing you can do to make sure you reach your goals is to schedule a meeting with your counselor and develop a plan for success.
It is our hope and our goal that every student enrolled in our Alternative Education Programs experiences personal and academic success. We look forward to working with you to make this goal a reality our students’ lives.
For our Valley View students, school will begin at 8:05 a.m. and will end at 2:55 p.m. We have high expectations for student success, and hope that you will seize all of the opportunities that a new school year brings. Our Viking students have the opportunity for success through a number of different paths. You may want to earn a diploma and graduate from Valley View. You may want to catch up on credits so you can return to your home school. You may want to improve your academic skills and prepare yourself for a fulfilling career that comes from post-high school education. You may wish to put yourself in a good position for graduating from Adult Education or with a GED diploma. Whatever path works for you, we hope to assist you in achieving your goals.
All students’ grades and school information are available on School Loop, an online service. It is available for students and parents to contact any staff member at any time during the school year. It is available in both English and Spanish. This is a wonderful tool for parents and students to keep track of progress and achievement. We encourage you to create an account, even if you don’t have internet access at home. We will make a computer available to you anytime you’d like to stop in to check your School Loop account. We will be glad to assist you until you are comfortable with the procedures.
Schedules will be handed out in your first period class on August 5th. There will be locator lists posted so you know which class to go to first period.
For our Chaffey Community Day School students, classes begin at 8:05 a.m. and end at 2:35 p.m. Breakfast will be available for you from 7:30 a.m. to 7:55 a.m. This breakfast schedule will allow other programs to receive food services and will allow you to eat and to meet the security officer at the Community Day School gate. Your schedule for the new school year will be distributed during 1st period on the first day of school.
I’d like to remind you that you should not bring any personal belongings, including backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, cell phones, or any other electronic devices to school. If you do, please give them to security to hold for safekeeping.
The Chaffey Success and Opportunity Program (CSOP) students need to arrive by 8:45 a.m. The school day will end at 2:05 p.m. Your schedule for the new school year will be distributed during 1st period on the first day of school.
I’d like to remind you that you should not bring any personal belongings, including backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, cell phones, or any other electronic devices to school. If you do, please give them to your teacher to hold for safekeeping.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to stop by or contact me. I can be reached at Bart_Goldstein@cjuhsd.net or call me at (909)985-0966.
